Matthew C. McElwee
Matthew is an Associate in the Business Department at McDonald Hopkins. He provides legal services and representation related to several areas of corporate and commercial transactions, including representing companies and investors in venture capital transactions, M&A (buy- and sell-side), and acting as outside counsel to start-ups and growth stage companies.
Matthew regularly advises clients and companies on a wide variety of corporate matters. As a founder, investor and operator of several venture stage companies, Matthew is thoroughly familiar with entrepreneurship, company formation and the management and acquisition of funding for start-up companies.
Matthew earned his J.D., summa cum laude, from Chicago-Kent College of Law in 2016 and his B.S. in Business Administration from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in 2012. While attending law school, Matthew received the Charles Shaw Award for his work as a staff member of the Chicago-Kent Law Review. As President of the Chicago-Kent Moot Court Honor Society, he also won the 2015 National Moot Court Competition and was selected as one of the Top 5 Oral Advocates in both the 2015 and 2016 American Bar Association Competitions.
