DOJ announces $2.6B health care false claims recoveries

The Department of Justice (DOJ) recently announced its recovery of over $3 billion from False Claims Act (FCA) civil cases, including $2.6 billion from health care cases. 

The press release highlights the following trends: 

  • Health care fraud settlements and judgments have exceeded $2 billion every year for the last 10 years.
  • Whistleblowers continue to play a central role in FCA cases, generating over $2.1 billion in qui tam recoveries and filing 633 qui tam suits.
  • The DOJ remains committed to using FCA and other remedies to hold individual owners and officers responsible for corporate fraud and abuse.
