The House passes the Save American Workers Act despite the threat of a veto

On January 6, 2015, H.B. 30, the Save American Workers Act of 2015, was introduced in the House of Representatives to amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to repeal the 30-hour threshold for classification as a full-time employee for purposes of the employer mandate in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and replace it with a 40-hour classification. Employers would only be required to provide health benefits for workers who work 40 hours or more per week.

On January 8, 2015, the House voted 252-172 in favor of the amendment. Twelve democrats sided with the Republicans in approving the first Obamacare-related legislation of the new Congress. The International Franchise Association and National Restaurant Association strongly support the new amendment, though President Obama has stated publicly that he will veto the amendment if it reaches his desk.
